To complete the ArcelorMittal Orbit you must be over 14 years old. Under 18 year olds require parental consent (email email@example.com to request a parental consent form) and adult supervision at a maximum ratio of 1 : 2. There is no upper age limit as long as you are fit and healthy.
There is a weight limit of 19 stone and you must be able to fit in the harnesses. If you are pregnant, unfortunately you cannot take part in the abseil. Please see our Terms & Conditions for more information.
We require prior notice before booking in guests with disabilities (min. 2 weeks), so that we can cater appropriately for their requirements.
Please note that all tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable so it is important to familiarise yourself with our terms and conditions before purchase.
For individual bookings please check the availability in the bookings section of our website (click on 'Booking'). For group bookings, please contact our abseil coordinator on 020 3198 0407.
We operate from April to October.
Your shoulders, midriff and upper legs should be covered. No loose clothing please e.g. long skirts or flowing cardigans. On your feet wear closed toe shoes, trainers or boots that will not fall off. Open toe shoes, flipflops, sandals or high heels are not permitted. Long hair must be tied back. Jewellery and scarves must be removed. Weather at the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit is often magnified, so bring a waterproof jacket and warm layer. Fancy dress may be permitted but please see fancy dress FAQ for more info.
Customers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled abseil slot (the time should be on your ticket). Arriving after the scheduled start time means you may not be able to abseil and will not be entitled to a refund. There will be no compensation paid for consequential losses or other expenses of a related nature.
Please bear in mind that it is at least a 15 minute walk across the Olympic Park to the base of the ArcelorMittal Orbit structure from most nearby public transport hubs.
We constantly monitor the weather situation and will keep you updated in advance if we feel that the weather may affect your event. We reserve the right to postpone abseils due to bad weather (strong winds, heavy rain, electric storms) for safety reasons. If your abseil has been cancelled due to bad weather, we will endeavour to reschedule your abseil to a time that is suitable to you. Alternatively, if you cannot return, we’ll give you a refund, or if you used a Gift Card, we will reactivate your voucher code.
Please bring a printed version or electronic version of your booking confirmation email. Any problems, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Also bring a £1 coin if you wish to leave personal belongings in the lockers.
There are lockers available to put your personal belongings in but these are left at your own risk. They are not particularly large so please only bring what you need on the day. You need a £1 coin to operate the lockers.
Spectators are welcome at the ArcelorMittal Orbit. The ArcelorMittal Orbit is open to the public from 10am – 6pm in the summer months and 11am – 5pm in the winter months. During these times friends and family can purchase tickets (www.arcelormittalorbit.com) to watch the abseil from the top of the structure.
It is also possible to watch from the roof terrace cafe when it is open. This is located just outside the ArcelorMittal Orbit entry gate and affords a fantastic view of the entire abseil.
Finally it is possible to watch beside the landing site, although spectators will need to pay entry and should be aware that this area is limited in space. Also please note that there is an exclusion zone around the actual landing site and entry by public is strictly forbidden for safety reasons.
The nearest tube station is Stratford . From there you need to walk through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (approximately 1 mile) to the base of the ArcelorMittal Orbit (you can’t miss it!). The abseil area is signposted from the waterfront. For satnav users, the address is: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, 3 Thornton St, London E20 2AD.
The nearest car park is car park B at Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre. If you have a blue badge then there are 6 blue badge spaces located on Thornton Street, behind the ArcelorMittal Orbit.
The experience is limited to people aged 14 and over. Under 18 year olds require parental consent and adult supervision at a maximum ratio of 1:2. Unfortunately children under the age of 14 years old will not be admitted.
We aim to make the abseils as accessible as possible. Call 020 3198 0407 to discuss your requirements with us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Please note that we do require prior notice for disabled guest bookings (minimum 2 weeks).
Our abseil instructors are used to helping abseil participants experiencing high levels of anxiety. They will support you to the best of their ability and give you positive encouragement to go ahead with your abseil. Unfortunately, if you do change your mind on the day, we would not be able to issue a refund or give you another opportunity at a later time or date.
We currently do not have a dedicated photographer but there is an option to hire a GoPro for the duration of your abseil.
Due to health and safety reasons, participants cannot bring their own cameras.
It is unlikely that you will be able to buy abseiling tickets on the day as availability is extremely limited and tickets sell out months in advance. We strongly recommend that you buy tickets prior to your abseil, particularly if you are travelling a long way to get to the ArcelorMittal Orbit.
Don’t worry. Email email@example.com or call 020 3198 0407 and we will do our best to help you.
We estimate your experience will last around 1 1/2 hours but this can depend on numbers and weather conditions.

You can wear fancy dress as long as you are not wearing any loose fitting items that could get caught in the safety system (for example capes or wigs) or loose items that are liable to fall off during your descent. Look at our “What should I wear’ FAQ for more information on what is appropriate. It is important that you adhere to our Terms & Conditions regarding correct attire. We reserve the right to refuse entry to the abseil if we deem your attire to be inappropriate.
There is a lift that takes you to the top.
Gift cards are redeemable online. Choose a time and date that is convenient and enter the code on your gift card into our booking system (click on 'Booking' on our website). Please note that the abseil operation does not run from October to March.
The ArcelorMittal Orbit operates the slide, so you will need to buy tickets directly from them (www.arcelormittalorbit.com). Please leave a window of at least 2.5 hours to compete the abseil before your slide booking or make sure that you will be able to arrive 15 minutes before your abseil slot, if you wish to slide first.
You will be emailed an order confirmation that will include your unique Booking Reference Number and a barcode that also contains this number. Please bring a copy of this when you visit us either on your smart phone or printed out.
If necessary just take a note of the 8 digit Booking Reference Number and bring it along with you, as well as with some ID.
